Andrea is a Licensed Clinical Marriage and Family Therapist in Kansas.

Andrea’s educational credentials include a bachelor’s degree in Psychology from William Jewell College and master’s degree in Marriage and Family Therapy from Friends University.  In addition to her educational credentials, Andrea is also a member of the American Association of Marriage and Family Therapy and the Kansas Association of Marriage and Family Therapy.  Andrea is a long-time resident of Kansas City.

In 1999 Andrea completed her internship requirements at Solace House which is a center for grieving children and their families.  Upon completion of her master’s degree in the summer of 2000 Andrea joined the Solace House staff as Program and Clinical Director.

Prior to joining Solace House, Andrea worked as a Family Specialist for Family Preservation Services.  As a Family Specialist Andrea was responsible for working with families that were at risk of having children removed from the home due to abuse, neglect or both.  During this time Andrea has also gained experience in the mental health field by working with individuals diagnosed with a mental illness; including schizophrenia, severe depression, bi-polar disorder, personality disorders, clinical anxiety disorders, adjustment disorders, and childhood diagnoses.

Andrea enjoys working with families as well as couples, individuals and children of all ages.  She specializes in grief and loss issues as well as abuse and neglect within families.  Additionally, she works with issues such as anxiety, depression and other mood disorders, marital and/or relational counseling, and other difficulties arising from developmental stages of life.

Initially, a history is gathered of the family and the presenting issue.  Andrea believes it is important to lessen anxiety in order to look at problems within the family system and increase the family’s ability to set their own goals and reach those goals during therapy.  Creating change is a difficult process, but one that can be obtained with guidance and support during the therapy process.  Andrea believes the family is their own “expert” along the path of healing and aims at supporting the family as they move in the direction they wish to go.  She incorporates all aspects of each individual into the therapeutic process including cognitive, behavioral, emotional, sociological, and most importantly spiritual.  When life gets complicated it can be very healing to have a non-judgmental, third-party person to listen and help hold the gravity of the situation.
