LICENSURE

I am a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor (LCPC) in the state of Kansas, as well as a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) in the state of Arizona.

PERSONAL STATEMENT

As a professional counselor I have accumulated more than 15 years of experience facilitating good mental health and personal growth for adult individuals, couples and spouses/partners of sex addicts. In addition to the traditional approach of 55-minute sessions, I am adding the choice of 3- to 5-day intensives for my clients. Intensives allow for much more work to be done in one sitting, thus encouraging growth and change at a faster pace. Please call for more information about that process.

BACKGROUND

A life-time Kansan, I received my Bachelor of Arts degree in English from St. Mary of the Plains College and taught high school English classes. I returned to graduate school in 1999 and received my Master’s in Professional Counseling from Ottawa University. I interned with The Meadows in Arizona and received intensive training with Pia Mellody and Dr. Patrick Carnes. I have practiced counseling for over 15 years, with a recent two-year interlude at The Meadows, Wickenburg, AZ doing workshop facilitation for couples, childhood trauma survivors and spouses/partners who have experienced sexual betrayal at The Meadows, Wickenburg, AZ. Outside of my work, I enjoy family-and-friends time, golf and travel. True to my background in English literature, I take much pleasure in reading and writing as well.

PROCESS

Our initial session will include getting to know more about your objectives for therapy, the possible origin of your distress, and what solutions might be helpful. I employ a variety of therapeutic models, including cognitive behavioral therapy. If I believe you might benefit from other specific treatments from other professionals, such as EMDR or acupuncture, I will suggest those as well. Most clients notice a definite improvement in affect and/or the presenting situation after a session or two. This doesn’t mean that the issue is “cured,” however. Continuing therapy is an individual decision. I recommend that you plan on 4-6 sessions with the understanding that everyone is different: some will require or request longer therapy periods, others will not. I am here to facilitate your healing at your pace.
